- USEC Inc. Donates $1,000 to the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge - August 25, 2008: USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge program in Oak Ridge recently donated $1,000 to the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge.
USEC’s donation will support the Appalachian Heritage Project, which will present the culture and history of Southern Appalachia in educational, hands-on exhibits. Three authentic Appalachian cabins will teach children and adults about life in Appalachia in the late 1800s. The project will also include hands-on activities that introduce Appalachian culture through the crafts, music and storytelling of the region. The exhibits and activities will tie in with national curriculum standards and will enrich the study of Tennessee history for students in the surrounding school systems.
The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge provides children with the opportunity to learn while playing and to create, discover, solve, and experience, within non-traditional, interactive exhibit galleries. It brings teachers, parents, caregivers and children together in an educational environment where classroom learning is supplemented, imaginations are kindled and learning opportunities in the arts, sciences, and history abound.
