- USEC Government Services Donates $30,000 to Southern Ohio Food Pantries - December 11, 2009: USEC Government Services employees provided a $30,000 donation to food pantries in southern Ohio at the company’s Christmas party at Shawnee Lodge at Shawnee State Park on December 5, 2009.
“We have the privilege of providing for our families during the Christmas holiday,” said USEC Vice President and General Manager Russ Starkey. “However, many in our region are struggling this time of year and we want to help.”
Starkey presented separate checks to representatives from food pantries in Scioto, Pike, Jackson and Ross Counties and personnel representing salaried employees, USW 1-689 and SPFPA Local-66 all gathered for a group photo to commemorate the event.

- Piketon Plant Raises $59,000 for Local Agencies - November 30, 2009: Employees at the Piketon plant are pleased to announce that more than $59,000 was raised in the 2009 United Fundraiser Campaign to benefit United Way agencies in Scioto and Ross Counties as well as the Jackson County United Fund and the Pike County Community Fund. The total amount includes employee donations, fundraisers, corporate contributions and regular payroll deductions.
Agency representatives attended a campaign closeout breakfast at the plant recently to accept donations from the campaign committee, made up of employees from USEC Government Services, USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge plant, LATA/Parallax Portsmouth LLC and Theta Pro2Serve Management Company LLC. Participating unions included the USW Local 1-689 and the Security Police Fire Professionals of America Local-66.
The Piketon plant-wide campaign ran through the month of October and included fun events such as charity auctions, cornhole tournaments, a hole-in-one contest, chili cookoff, tailgate cookoff, talent show and many raffles.
USEC Inc., a global energy company, is a leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. It expects to deploy the next generation uranium enrichment technology in Piketon, Ohio – the American Centrifuge. The United States Enrichment Corporation, a subsidiary of USEC Inc., operates a uranium enrichment plant in Paducah, Kentucky, and does contract work for the U.S. Department of Energy in Piketon. Theta Pro2Serve Management Company LLC is the DOE infrastructure contractor at the site. LATA/Parallax Portsmouth LLC is the U.S. DOE environmental remediation contractor at site.

- USEC Continues Tradition of Support for Pike County Fair - July 24, 2009: USEC recently provided a $2,500 corporate sponsorship in support of the Pike County Agricultural Society and this year’s Truck Pull event at the Pike County Fair. USEC also provided a $240 sponsorship for the Pike County Fair’s website, located online at pikecofair.com. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Bob Fout, President of the Pike County Agricultural Society.
In addition, USEC supports local 4-H by participating each year as a Top Ten Volume Buyer at the Pike County 4-H Livestock Sales.

- USEC fulfills pledge to Shawnee State University - July 1, 2009 : USEC recently presented a $25,000 donation to Shawnee State University in support of the University’s Celebration of Scholarship undergraduate conference. Dan Rogers, General Manager, American Centrifuge Plant Operations presented the donation to Dr. Rita Rice Morris, President of Shawnee State University.
USEC also served as a table sponsor for this year’s President’s Gala. USEC’s combined gifts to undergraduate research and scholarships, table sponsorships for the annual President’s Gala and this recent donation brought USEC to a current total of $89,900 given to Shawnee State’s Poised for Tomorrow campaign.
“We are proud of the support that we have provided for higher learning for students in southern Ohio, and we value our continued working relationship with Shawnee State University," said Rogers. "We are also grateful for their continued support of USEC. They have realized the importance of offering training for our local residents that aligns with the needs of our business. Community partnerships like these are essential in an effort to improve local employment opportunities.”
Shawnee State is part of the Ohio South Consortium for Training and Education which has worked with USEC to provide the American Centrifuge Skills Development Training Program. USEC hired its first Associate Operations Technicians from this program in late June.

- USEC Donation Assists with Purchase of Emergency Equipment - July 1, 2009 : USEC recently provided a corporate donation to the Twin Township Fire and Life Squad Association in Bourneville to assist with its purchase of needed equipment. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented a $1,000 USEC corporate donation to Heather Hawk, a member of the association.
USEC’s donation will assist Twin Township with the purchase of needed extrication equipment that can be used to safely gain immediate access to accident victims without compromising patient care.

- USEC Donation Helps Provide Drug and Alcohol Treatment for Local Residents - July 1, 2009 : USEC recently provided a $5,000 corporate donation to New Beginnings Outreach which operates the Freedom Hall Recovery Center in Piketon.
Freedom Hall Recovery Center is a long-term residential treatment facility near Piketon for men and women with alcohol and drug dependency. Its residents stay for nine to 12 months at no cost to them. Freedom Hall staff work with their clients to totally rehabilitate them. This includes assistance with helping them seek careers and education. The program, which is totally funded by donations, supports the operation of an in-patient facility which holds 32 males and nine females. USEC’s donation will be used to help provide food, utilities and fuel for the residential treatment facility.

- USEC Sponsors American Cancer Society Relay for Life Events in Four Southern Ohio Counties - July 1, 2009: USEC recently provided a corporate donation to the American Cancer Society in sponsorship of Relay for Life events in Pike, Ross, Scioto and Jackson counties. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented a $4,000 USEC corporate donation to Susan Schneider, Regional Community Director for the American Cancer Society.
USEC’s $1,000 sponsorship for each county’s event provides funding for survivor receptions, health initiative programs of education and prevention, and promotion of Quality of Life programs for survivors and caregivers. The Pike, Ross and Scioto events were all held in June, and the Jackson relay is scheduled for August. In 2008, these four counties raised more than $405,000 to support the American Cancer Society mission of research, education, support and prevention through their Relay for Life events.

- USEC Donation Improves Communication Capabilities for Piketon-Seal Township Fire Department - June 26, 2009: USEC recently provided a $3,200 corporate donation in support of the Piketon-Seal Township Fire Department. Marty Redden, Manager of Fire Services and Emergency Management for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to the department's Fire Chief, Scott Wickham, Firefighter John Flesher, and Captain Jeff Spires. Flesher and Sprires are also firefighters and EMTs for USEC Fire Protection Services.
The department will be using the donation to purchase wireless head sets that will provide greatly improved communication capabilities between the firefighters and the Pike County Fire Dispatcher. The headsets will reduce outside noise interference and help the department comply with standards required by the National Fire Protection Association and other safety regulators.
“This equipment will help members of the Piketon-Seal Township Fire Department better provide emergency response to the area that our department serves,” said Spires. “This includes responses made to USEC on mutual aid emergency calls.”
The Piketon-Seal Township Fire Department, which currently has 30 active firefighters providing fire protection services to the community of Piketon and Seal Township, is a member of the Pike County Firefighters Association along with USEC Fire Protection Services.

- USEC Donation Helps Increase Awareness About Elder Abuse - June 25, 2009: USEC recently presented an $800 corporate donation to the Pike County Department of Job and Family Services in Waverly. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant Operations, presented the donation to Sara Moore, Social Services Supervisor.
The donation will be used to help the agency increase local awareness about elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. It was also used to assist with the agency’s Annual Adult Protective Services/Elder Abuse Awareness Day held on June 15.

- USEC Helps Operation Safety Net Provide Shelter to Local Homeless - June 15, 2009: USEC recently provided a $5,000 corporate donation to the Operation Safety Net. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Maureen Cadogan, Executive Director.
Operation Safety Net operates the Scioto County Homeless Shelter located at 615 Eighth Street in Portsmouth. The shelter provides housing and food for area homeless and works to assist them in securing safe, decent and affordable housing. The shelter offers and advances opportunities for self-determination, self-help, and cooperation among people with limited resources. It provides budget management, nutrition education, daily living skills, job seeking skills, parenting classes, literacy skills and other assistance. The shelter arranges for educational enrichment and provides access to GED study programs and testing for those who need and want it, and it provides various forms of other support by a network of social service providers in order to help their clients regroup.

- USEC Supports Kiwanis Playground Fund - June 15, 2009 : USEC recently provided a $5,000 corporate donation to the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth in support of the group’s construction of a new children’s playground in Tracy Park. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Robin Hamm-LaValley, Kiwanis President, and Ralph Nolfi, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth’s Board of Directors and past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis Division 9, Ohio District. Nolfi is also a Piketon plant retiree.
The Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth is constructing this new playground for the children of the Portsmouth community and visiting children to enjoy that is accessible, safe, entertaining and blends into the esthetics of Tracy Park and the Portsmouth community. The playground equipment has been purchased, and the site preparation and installation of the equipment is being done by volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth and local citizens.

- USEC Donation Helps Adena Hospice Provide Care to Local Residents - June 15, 2009: USEC recently provided a $1,000 corporate donation to the the Hospice of Adena Health System. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Sharon Wills, RN, BSN, who serves as Hospice Supervisor.
Each year, Hospice of Adena Health System provides compassionate, family-focused end of life care to hundreds of residents across South Central Ohio. They provide compassionate and individualized care to patients with limited life expectancy whether the patient or family can pay for services or not.

- USEC Supports Local Food Pantry - June 15, 2009: USEC recently provided a $1,000 corporate donation to the Pleasant Valley Community of Christ Church to support its community food pantry. Gary Workman, Plant Services Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Jayne Crabtree of Pleasant Valley. Crabtree is also the Safety Manager for the American Centrifuge Plant.
Pleasant Valley is a member of the Freestore Food Bank Inc. of Cincinnati. They distribute 200-250 boxes of food monthly to needy families in the Lucasville community.

- USEC Supports Zane Trace Elementary Technology Program - June 4, 2009: The United States Enrichment Corporation recently provided a $1,000 donation to support the Pursuit of Quality Through Technology Program at Zane Trace Elementary School. The funds will go toward the purchase of SMART Board units to be placed in classrooms throughout the school.
The donation was presented to representatives from Zane Trace Elementary School recently.
SMART Board interactive whiteboards are becoming increasingly popular in classrooms at all levels of education. When combined with a computer and projector, the SMART Board provides a dynamic learning environment.

- USEC Supports National Cancer Survivor Day Celebration - June 3, 2009: USEC recently provided a donation in the amount of $1,000 for the National Cancer Survivors Day celebration scheduled for Sunday, June 7 in Portsmouth. Rick Ginther, USEC, presented the donation recently to Dr. Tsuyoshi Inoshita, Portsmouth Cancer Care Associates.
Dr. Inoshita and his staff host the event each year at the Portsmouth Cancer Care Associates office located at 916 11th Street in Portsmouth. The celebration is free of charge to the public and will take place from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and includes great fun, food and music.
National Cancer Survivors Day® is an annual, worldwide Celebration of Life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada, and other participating countries. Participants unite in a symbolic event to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.
The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a "survivor" as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. National Cancer Survivors Day affords each community an opportunity to demonstrate that it has an active, productive cancer survivor population.

- USEC Donation to Civic Forum Provides Sponsorship for Local Events - May 27, 2009: USEC recently provided a corporate donation to the Civic Forum in sponsorship of four events for 2009. The Civic Forum, a long-standing non-profit corporation, has handled many charitable and youth activities in the Portsmouth area since its inception in 1935. - USEC Sponsors “Ribs on the River” to Raise Funding for Main Street Portsmouth - May 20, 2009: USEC will again partner with Main Street Portsmouth to host the second annual USEC Ribs on the River Festival on July 4. Dan Rogers, General Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant Operations, recently presented a $5,000 USEC corporate donation to Craig DeAtley, President of Main Street Portsmouth.
“Ribs on the River” is a major fundraiser for Main Street Portsmouth, a non-profit organization working to revitalize traditional downtown business districts and renovate and preserve historic commercial buildings. The Main Street approach, as begun by the National Main Street Program in 1977, has successfully revitalized downtowns in more than 1,600 communities nationwide, generating more than 16 billion dollars of re-investment in those communities.
Among its many accomplishments, Main Street Portsmouth has invested more than $35,000 in Alexandria Park, Roy Rogers Esplanade and other downtown areas, and they have coordinated more than 300 volunteer hours since 2003 on planting, watering and upkeep. They have also provided networking opportunities and marketing and advertising assistance for local business owners, produced a district walking map and raised money to repave downtown parking lots.

- USEC Serves as Platinum Sponsor for Tenth Annual Scott Porter Memorial - May 15, 2009: USEC will serve as a Platinum Event Sponsor of the 10th Annual Scott Porter Memorial 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk and Youth Track Meet on Memorial Day, May 25. Proceeds from this event, which will take place at Waverly High School, will benefit the annual Scott Porter Memorial Scholarship and extracurricular activities at Waverly High School.
Patty Hines, who works in the General Manager’s office at USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant Operations, recently presented a $1,000 USEC corporate donation to Joe Porter, a USEC employee. Porter coordinates this event in memory of his son, Scott Porter, a 1994 Waverly High School graduate who excelled in cross country and track. The Scott Porter Memorial Fund was established in January of 1999, at the time of Scott's untimely death due to cancer. Through this fund, two $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to Waverly High School seniors. Additionally, gifts supporting extracurricular activities are awarded as funding permits. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $22,000.

- USEC Presents Donation to Pike County Board of Commissioners - May 4, 2009: USEC recently presented a $5,000 corporate donation to the Pike County Board of Commissioners to support the board’s general operations. Dan Rogers, General Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant Operations, presented the donation to Pike County Commissioners Harry Rider, Teddy West and Blaine Beekman.

- USEC Supports Homeschool Expo - May 4, 2009: USEC recently provided a $508 corporate donation in support of the Homeschool Expo that was held in Chillicothe on April 25. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Kymn Davis, Expo Coordinator.
The Homeschool Expo is an annual event sponsored by the Southern Ohio Area Home Educators, which consists of four area home education groups covering a six-county area with a membership of more than 100 families. This event provides the opportunity to showcase their children’s performing arts and to display their non-performing talents. It included an art contest, a baking contest and the Expo’s first ever homeschool graduate reception.
This year’s expo also included a published book of the students’ collective works such as essays, poems, book reviews and short stories. A talent show featured singers, piano players, actors, dramatists and gymnasts.

- USEC Sponsors Agriculture Awareness Day - April 28, 2009 : USEC recently provided a $250 corporate donation to the Pike County Farm Burea in support of a Platinum Level/Banner sponsorship for Agriculture Awareness Day on May 12. Sponsored by the Pike County Farm Bureau, this is a free field trip to the Pike County Fairgrounds offered to all Pike County third grade students.
Penny Smith of USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Adam Fout and Chris Brust, both board members of the Farm Bureau and employees of USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant.
Agriculture Awareness Day is designed to give students an understanding of agriculture, the role that agriculture plays in our lives, the various commodity groups, the raising of livestock, and the farmer’s role in preserving our environment.
With the help of local volunteers, various commodity groups, and agriculture-related industries, as well as sponsorship from local businesses, the Pike County Farm Bureau sets up a day of fun and learning for the third grade students at no cost to the schools or the families. Students spend the day learning from several different displays about agriculture. Teachers are provided a teacher’s packet, which includes lesson plans, cross-curricular uses of agriculture lessons, handouts, coloring pages, and links to specific objectives and learning goals of the Ohio Proficiency Tests.

- USEC Renews Sponsorship of Appalachian Adventure Trail - April 28, 2009: USEC recently provided a $1,000 corporate sponsorship renewal in support of Appalachian Adventure Trail…Explore Southern Ohio’s Arts, Culture, and Recreation. This marketing initiative launched in 2007 is a collaboration among six counties: Athens, Jackson, Meigs, Morgan, Pike and Vinton, that seek to promote the many tourism attractions available in this region.

- USEC Scholarships Established at Shawnee State University - April 20, 2009: USEC Government Services is pleased to announce that the Company has established four scholarships, to be awarded annually, at Shawnee State University (SSU) in Portsmouth. Each scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, will be made available to current USEC Government Services employees of the Piketon plant and/or their immediate family members.
Wray Jordan, General Manager of USEC Government Services, and Dr. Rita Rice-Morris, President of Shawnee State University, met recently to sign an agreement through which USEC will sponsor the scholarships. “USEC and Shawnee State University are both very important to our region,” said Wray Jordan, USEC Government Services General Manager. “By working together, we can educate and recruit future employees locally.”
”USEC is a wonderful community partner and shares in our commitment to make higher education more accessible and affordable through scholarships,” said Dr. Rita Rice-Morris, President of Shawnee State University, “These scholarships will make a lasting impact on our community.”
Three of the four scholarships will be set aside for students in technical fields in science, engineering, business or math and one scholarship will be made available for students in the field of education. Applicants must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree at SSU and have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.50 or above. Award decisions will be made through the Shawnee State University Financial Aid office.
The application period for the USEC Government Services Scholarships will be from Monday, April 20, 2009 through Friday, May 29, 2009. Applications can be picked up either from the plant Human Resources office in the X-100 building, or from the Shawnee State University Financial Aid Office, located on the second floor of the University Center. All applications must be returned no later than Friday, May 29, 2009, to Shawnee State University, Attn: Office of Financial Aid, 940 Second Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662. - USEC Supports the Chillicothe Art League’s Spring Open Exhibition - April 14, 2009: The United States Enrichment Corporation recently provided a $1,000 donation to support the Chillicothe Art League’s eleventh-annual Spring Open Exhibition at the Pump House Center for the Arts.
Wray Jordan, USEC General Manager, presented the donation to Judy Summers, USEC employee and member of the Chillicothe Art League.
The Spring Open Exhibition runs through April 19, 2009. It is open to artists throughout the region and each year works of art are submitted from people representing approximately 20 cities within a 75-mile radius of Chillicothe. Awards are given in three categories: two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and best-in-show.
Proceeds generated from the Spring Open Exhibition help fund the Chillicothe Art League’s annual scholarship fund which provides one $1,000 and one $500 scholarship to two students from Ross County pursuing art degrees.

- USEC Donation Helps Provide Services for Victims of Domestic Violence in Pike County - April 10, 2009: USEC recently provided a $2,000 corporate donation to the Pike County Partnership Against Domestic Violence. Penny Smith of USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Robin Grooms, Victim Services Advocate for the Partnership.

- USEC Funding Provides Computers for Handicapped Children - April 7, 2009: USEC recently provided a $1,600 corporate donation in support of Hope Haven School which is operated by the Jackson County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to a group representing the school. They included Nick Elliott, Assistant to the Superintendent; Samantha Wechter, school parent; and student representatives Addie Wechter, Conner Hanning, Sarah Young and Cody Lambert.
The donation will be used to purchase classroom computers to assist the teachers with preparing classroom materials for the specialized needs of Hope Haven students.

- USEC Donation Sends Newspapers to Area Schools - April 3, 2009: USEC recently provided a $500 corporate donation to the Portsmouth Daily Times in support of its Newspapers in Education program. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to John Clark, Publisher for the Daily Times.
USEC’s donation made it possible for the Daily Times to distribute more than 3,500 copies of the recent Presidential Inauguration edition to all the area schools through its Newspapers in Education program. This program advances the use of newspapers in schools which contributes to students’ reading skills, writing skills and current event knowledge.

- USEC Gift Supports Adoption for Local Animals - April 2, 2009: USEC recently provided a $750 corporate donation in support of Sierra’s Haven for New & Used Pets. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Connie Weaver, a volunteer at the shelter.
Now in its third year of operation, Sierra’s Haven, located north of Portsmouth, took in 377 animals in 2008, adopted 474 animals into new homes, and neutered or spayed 980 cats and kittens and more than 600 dogs and puppies. - USEC Donation Supports Disaster Response in Pike and Scioto Counties - March 31, 2009: USEC recently provided a $12,000 corporate donation to the Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, which serves both Scioto and Pike counties. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager, and Marty Redden, Manager of Fire Services and Emergency Management for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Mary Arnzen, Executive Director of the Ohio Valley Chapter. Redden is also a member of the Ohio Valley Chapter board.
Since July 2008, the Ohio Valley Chapter has trained more than 1,300 local citizens in CPR and in First Aid. The chapter has also distributed nearly $35,000 in disaster aid to more than 125 victims of single family fires in the Pike and Scioto communities. They have also collected more than 2,300 units of blood from the citizens of these two counties at drives that were held at hospitals, businesses and schools. USEC conducts two blood drives each year at the Piketon plant.

- USEC Donation Supports Scioto County Senior Home Inspection Program - March 27, 2009: USEC recently provided a $1,000 corporate donation in support of the Area Agency on Aging District 7 and the Scioto County Senior Home Inspection Program. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Debbie Estep, RN, an Assessor/Case Manager for the agency, and Debbie Collier, RN, Ombudsman.
The Area Agency on Aging District 7 is currently partnering with Shawnee State University, the Portsmouth Police and Fire Departments, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, and the Scioto County Department of Job and Family Services to develop the Scioto County Senior Home Inspection Program (SHIP). This program serves elders living in rural Scioto County by providing free home assessments, fire safety inspections, fall assessments and long-term care consultations. Senior citizens also receive free home safety equipment. The program is scheduled to begin in June 2009.

- USEC Funding Promotes Energy Education for Area Teachers and Students - March 27, 2009: USEC recently provided a $5,000 corporate donation in support of its partnership with the Ohio Energy Project (OEP) to enhance energy education for local students and teachers. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Deborah Yerkes, Executive Director of OEP.
USEC’s donation included a corporate sponsorship for OEP’s annual Energy Fair held for local fifth graders at Shawnee State University. On March 24, OEP hosted this year’s Energy Fair where 40 high school student leaders, trained by OEP, led activities for 250 students and teachers from area schools as they taught them facts about energy and how to be energy efficient. USEC representatives met with local science teachers during the fair to discuss the company’s role in the nuclear fuel cycle.
OEP educates and empowers southern Ohio students to be energy leaders in their world, and they provide exceptional energy curriculum materials to southern Ohio teachers. OEP also conducts an annual Science Education Council of Ohio conference which takes Ohio teachers on summer bus trips to energy-related industrial facilities in Ohio.

- USEC Assists Animal Welfare League With Billboard Campaign - March 27, 2009: USEC recently provided a $760 corporate donation in support of the Animal Welfare League of Scioto County, Inc., and its billboard campaign to promote the spaying and neutering of the local pet population. Marty Redden, Manager of Fire Services and Emergency Management for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Linda Howell, chair of the Animal League’s board.
The Animal Welfare League has administered a reduced-rate spay/neuter program for low income or fixed income households since 1988. They work with the Scioto County dog pound to encourage adoptions and rescues of homeless dogs and to improve conditions at the pound. - USEC Employees Donate Cash Award to Pike County Outreach Council - March 23, 2009: A team of more than 40 USEC employees, who were recently presented a corporate award from USEC Inc. President and CEO John Welch, donated the proceeds from the award to the Pike County Outreach Council. The council serves local residents in need with a food pantry, homeless shelter and assistance in emergency situations.
Judy Dixon, Executive Director of the Pike County Outreach Council, was presented with a $1,000 donation recently by (pictured left to right) Ralph Glenn, USW Representative, Jack Krieg, Project Engineer, and Charlie Brunner, USW Electrician.
The award, named the Employee Excellence and Entrepreneurship (EIII) President’s Award, encourages employees to achieve the Company’s corporate objectives through excellence and entrepreneurship in their work.
The team’s project included completion of a fire suppression system installation, which marked an important milestone in USEC’s Cold Shutdown operations. Under an aggressive timeline, the project team safely completed the project on time and within budget. The project required more than 39,000 work hours from hourly and salary personnel to install more than 250,000 feet of wiring, cabling and conduit within the X-333 and X-330 buildings.

- USEC Donates for Purchase of Rehabilitation Equipment at Pike Community Hospital - March 18, 2009: USEC recently donated $4,000 to the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department at Pike Community Hospital. The funds will be used for the purchase of a new upper body ergometer cycle.
Wray Jordan, General Manager of the United States Enrichment Corporation at Piketon, presented the donation to Melissa Waddell, Chief Physical Therapist, and Craig Solle, President & CEO of Pike Community Hospital.
The new upper body cycle replaces one that has been in use for the past 12 years. The new cycle allows the user to work in overhead or standing positions as well as the traditional seated position. It will be used in the rehabilitation and physical therapy of patients with neck, upper extremity, back, and cardiac health issues.

- USEC Donates $2,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters - March 16, 2009: The United States Enrichment Corporation recently provided $2,000 to South Central Ohio Big Brothers Big Sisters. Two separate donations, $1,000 each, were provided to support the annual Bowl for Kids Sake events held throughout south central Ohio and the school-based mentoring program in Scioto County.
Teresa Shisler, USEC Budget Analyst and Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer, presented one of the donations to Christy Schreick, Scioto County Enrollment, Match Support Specialist with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to provide the highest quality volunteers and professional services for children between the ages of 7-14 primarily from single parent homes, and to assist them in achieving their greatest potential through one-to-one, long-term and safe relationships between the Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteers and the children. A recent independent study showed children that were matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister were more confident in their performance in school, had better relationships with their families, and were less likely to begin using illegal drugs or alcohol. - USEC Donates to Historic Canal Boat Project - February 5, 2009: USEC recently made a donation to the Pike County Convention and Visitors Bureau to build a public access ramp for the newly constructed canal boat replica located in the historic canal area near Bristol Village and the Waverly city park.
John Shewbrooks from USEC’s Nuclear Safety and Quality department presented a $1,500 check to Sharon Manson, Director of the Pike County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
The replica boat measures 28 feet long by 10 feet wide and was built by students at the Vern Riffe Career Technology Center. Signage along the adjacent canal trail educates visitors on the history of the canal which was a main form of transportation through Pike county in the early 1800’s.

- USEC Serves as Grand Item Sponsor for Boy Scout Media Holiday Auction - January 29, 2009: USEC recently provided a $1,700 corporate donation in support of the Simon Kenton Council and the Boy Scouts of America’s 19th Annual Holiday Auction. Marty Redden, Manager of Fire Services and Emergency Management for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Misti Spicer and Vanya Perez, auction co-chairs, and Martha Channell, Simon Kenton Council Boy Scout District Executive.
The annual boy scout holiday auction, held in December, raises money to benefit area Boy Scouts and Camp Oyo. USEC’s donation provided the grand prize auction item, a 2008 Honda CRF80 dirt bike.

- USEC Donates to Scioto County Welcome Center Mural - January 23, 2009: USEC recently donated $4,000 toward the completion of the mural along the front of the Scioto County Welcome Center on Second Street in Portsmouth. The Welcome Center mural compliments the adjacent floodwall murals and depicts the Ohio River Scenic Byway which travels 967 miles through Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

The Scioto County Welcome Center mural is being painted by artist Robert Dafford who is responsible for painting the Portsmouth floodwall murals which attract thousands of visitors each year.

- USEC Assists Literacy Council - January 22, 2009: USEC recently provided a $1,000 corporate donation in support of the Literacy Council of Scioto County and its campaign “Literacy Changes Lives 2008.” Marty Redden, Manager, Fire Services and Emergency Management, for USEC Inc.'s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Susan McComas, Director of the Literacy Council.
Twenty-four percent of the adults in Scioto County read at a Level I proficiency, and the Literacy Council is using events, programs, marketing and education to help the local public gain awareness of this program. They are targeting adult populations that need literacy services and sending books home with local children to help improve reading skills for them and their families.

- USEC Gives to Pike County Diabetes Coalition - January 22, 2009: USEC recently provided a $500 corporate donation in support of the Pike County Diabetes Coalition. Angie Duduit, Public Affairs Manager for USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge Plant, presented the donation to Donna Moore, the coalition’s Vice President.
The Pike County Diabetes Coalition operates a number of programs to support approximately 200-250 local individuals with this chronic disease. The coalition works with other county and state agencies to provide support classes, screenings, health fairs and other events to educate adults and children to the growing epidemic of obesity and diabetes.
