Sharon Grooms Achieves ASP Certification

PIKETON, Ohio - Sharon Grooms, Piketon, an Industrial Safety employee at the United States Enrichment Corporation’s Piketon Plant, has completed all requirements for certification as an Associate Safety Professional (ASP). This highly respected certification is awarded to individuals who meet academic requirements and have passed the first of two extensive examinations.

Upon passing the first examination, “Safety Fundamentals,” individuals receive the interim designation of Associate Safety Professional to indicate their progress toward the Certified Safety Professional (CSP). The first examination covers basic and applied sciences, safety program management and evaluation, equipment and facilities, fire prevention and protection, environmental aspects, system safety and product safety. Certified Safety Professionals specialize in protecting workers, the public, property, and the environment by identifying, evaluating, and controlling hazards. The CSP manages programs aimed at compliance with safety principles, federal, state, and local laws, and regulations. The ASP must complete professional safety experience requirements and pass a five and a half hour Comprehensive Practice examination to obtain the CSP designation.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals establishes standards for and verifies minimum competency in professional safety practice. BCSP is a nationally accredited, non-profit corporation chartered in Illinois, with headquarters in Savoy. More information about BCSP and professional safety practice is available at www.bcsp.org.

The United States Enrichment Corporation is a subsidiary of USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU), a global energy company and the world’s leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants.
