USEC Honors Employee Lee Lawson for His Induction into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame

PIKETON, Ohio - Lee Lawson, a United States Enrichment Corporation employee, was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame on Friday, July 5. The ceremonies were held at Ohio Veterans Plaza in Columbus. Lawson is the Records Management/Document Control (RMDC) manager for both the Portsmouth and Paducah plants.

Family, friends and co-workers honored Lawson at a reception held at the Portsmouth plant on Tuesday, July 2. General Manager Pat Musser presented Lawson with a certificate of recognition for his efforts.

Lawson was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966, completing his basic training at Ft. Hood, Texas. He later served for two years as a sergeant in the Vietnam War with the 1st Infantry Division Rangers. He had assignments as an artillery Forward Observer and squad leader of a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) team. He returned to the U.S. to finish out his service at Ft. Hood, receiving an honorable discharge in 1968.

While in Vietnam, he received the National Defense Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart and the Silver Star Medal. He was also awarded the Gallantry Cross with Gold Star by the Vietnamese Government. Lawson’s Silver Star was pinned on him personally by General William Westmoreland, Commander of the U.S. Forces in Vietnam, in 1967.

About the Ohio Military Hall of Fame

Charter members of the Ohio Military Hall of Fame include the six Ohio military veterans who were elected president of the United States and all Medal of Honor recipients from Ohio. A committee of veterans serves as advisors for the Hall of Fame and selects approximately 20 inductees annually from nominations solicited from citizens of Ohio throughout the year. Men and women chosen for this honor come from all areas, all branches of service and all walks of life.

Those selected for the honor of induction are veterans who have honorably served their country through military service and who have continued to serve and inspire their fellow man with their deeds and accomplishments throughout their lifetime.
