Security Union Ratifies New Contract with USEC

PADUCAH, Ky. - On Friday, March 2, the membership of SPFPA Local 111 at the Paducah uranium enrichment plant ratified a new five-year labor contract with the United States Enrichment Corporation.

The Security, Police & Fire Professionals of America represents about 80 members of USEC’s Security force. The previous contract expired March 1. Negotiations have been underway since mid-February.

“We are pleased to have reached agreement with SPFPA and look forward to working closely with its members in the years ahead to ensure the highest degree of safety for the Paducah plant,” said Steve Penrod, USEC General Manager.

Protective Force Officer Jason Kunsman, SPFPA President, said, “While neither side ever gets everything that they want out of a contract, I feel that we were able to get a contract that satisfied the needs of both the Company and the Union membership to some degree."

The United States Enrichment Corporation is a subsidiary of USEC Inc. (NYSE:USU), a leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. USEC leases the Paducah plant, the nation’s only operating enrichment facility, from the U.S. Department of Energy.
