PIKETON, Ohio - USEC Inc. has named John Oppy as the Lead Cascade Demonstration Manager for the American Centrifuge Demonstration Facility at the Piketon Plant. Oppy will report to Dan Rogers, Director, American Centrifuge Plant.
Oppy has served as Manager of the Gas Centrifuge Enrichment Plant (GCEP) Cleanup Project since December 2003. In this role, he received the Corporation’s Employee Excellence and Entrepreneurship award for his management of the preparation of the existing centrifuge facilities for the deployment of USEC’s Demonstration Facility scheduled for later this year.
Oppy first came to the Piketon plant in 1975 as a Chemical Operator and was promoted to First Line Manager for Chemical Operations within five years. From 1982-1989, he served as a General Supervisor of Gas Centrifuge Cascade Operations. He then returned to Chemical Operations where he served as Manager from 1989-1997. He then served for two years as Manager of Feed and Transfer Operations and another four years as Manager of Shift Operations before transferring to manage the GCEP Cleanup Project.
“The American Centrifuge Program will benefit from John Oppy’s knowledge and experience with previous centrifuge activities at the Piketon site,” said Rogers.
Oppy and his wife, Patti, live in Lucasville. They have two sons, Andrew and Jeremy.
