USEC's Mario Robles Selected as Congressional Fellow

BETHESDA, Md. - USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU) announced today that Mario Robles, the Company’s manager of advanced technology licensing, was selected by the American Nuclear Society (ANS) as the 2004 ANS Glenn T. Seaborg Science and Engineering Congressional Fellow. On January 5, Robles began a year-long assignment working on the Washington, DC legislative staff of Rep. John E. Peterson (R-PA).

According to the ANS, the Fellowship helps to build a stronger bridge between the scientific community and policy makers. The Fellow acts as a science and engineering resource for Congress and the staff of the senator or representative to whose office the Fellow is assigned.

Ron Green, USEC senior vice president, noted that Robles was selected from a field of highly qualified candidates. “Mario typifies the type of high-caliber employee we have at USEC and this assignment is reflective of the Company’s commitment to the nuclear power industry.”

Robles has more than 20 years of experience in the nuclear industry and has played an integral role in the licensing effort for USEC’s American Centrifuge uranium enrichment plant, which USEC expects will be the world’s most efficient uranium enrichment facility. Robles’ previous responsibilities at USEC will be performed by Peter Miner, director of advanced technology security and licensing.

Rep. Peterson serves as vice chairman of the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Interior and Related Agencies and serves on its Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development. He is also a member of the House Resources Committee. Pennsylvania has nine nuclear power reactors at five plant sites that produce about 40 percent of the state’s electricity. This percentage is twice the national average.

USEC Inc., a global energy company, is the world’s leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants.
