USEC Announces New Joint Marketing Program with Enron
-USEC Nuclear Utility Customers May Pay for Uranium Enrichment with Electric Power-

BETHESDA, Md. - USEC Inc. (NYSE: USU) announced today that it has signed a joint marketing agreement with Enron North America Corp. to offer an innovative option to U.S. nuclear electric utility customers purchasing fuel enrichment services or products from USEC. Customers will be given the option to deliver electric power in lieu of cash payments for uranium enrichment. This is the first time such a nuclear fuel payment option will be offered in conjunction with a nationwide electric power trading network.

"This is an outstanding example of business synergy," said William H. Timbers, USEC president and chief executive officer. "By combining our respective experience, resources and market leadership positions, we will be able to provide nuclear utility customers with a truly innovative, value-added service. At the same time, we also gain a unique competitive advantage."

Under the agreement, customers will be able to pay Enron in electricity for uranium enrichment supplied by USEC. Enron will pay USEC the contracted price for the enriched uranium and, in turn, market the electricity.

"This new partnership will substantially expand customer options and flexibility," Timbers added. "USEC’s utility customers across the United States can use Enron’s extensive trading network to link the cost of their nuclear fuel products to their market revenues for power."

USEC and Houston-based Enron have set near-term targets for marketing and implementation of this program with domestic nuclear utilities. After expanding the reach of the program in the United States, they hope to extend its availability to international markets. The annual market for uranium enrichment is estimated to be $1 billion in the United States and $3 billion worldwide.

This news release includes certain forward-looking information that involves risks and uncertainty, including certain assumptions regarding the future performance of USEC. Actual results may differ materially, depending on a variety of factors referenced in USEC’s periodic filings with the SEC.

USEC Inc., a global energy company, is the world’s leading supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants.
