PACE Membership Votes to Extend Contract with USEC

BETHESDA, Md. - On Sunday, December 12, the membership of PACE Local 5-689 at USEC’s Portsmouth uranium enrichment plant voted to extend the current labor contract for an additional four years. The current contract, which was set to expire on May 2, 2000, will now be extended until May 2, 2004.

"I look forward to continued cooperation between USEC and the PACE membership as we approach the 21st century," said Morris Brown, USEC General Manager at the Portsmouth plant. "It is essential that the employees at the Portsmouth plant continue to work as a team in order for USEC to remain a successful global competitor in the uranium enrichment market."

USEC and PACE Local 5-689 have been recognized twice recently for improvements in labor relations. In October, the 1999 Ohio Buckeye Labor-Management Conference recognized USEC and PACE Local 5-689 for outstanding achievement and success in the use of labor-management cooperation efforts at the Portsmouth facility. Earlier this month, USEC and PACE jointly received the Ross County Labor/Management Committee’s special award for excellence in labor and management relations.
